THE SLATES (UK) – exclusive to RiP in Norway! The band is playing both an all-ages matinee show and a regular evening concert, giving everyone the chance to see one of the UK's hottest young bands — a group that has whipped up a frenzy at UK festivals this summer! We saw The Slates from Leeds perform live on a tram (!) and at the small club Hängmattan in Gothenburg during the Viva Sounds festival last November. The young indie-rock band delivered two brilliant shows that completely won us over with their youthful energy, infectious enthusiasm, and sing-along-friendly songs; we were unanimous in wanting to bring the band to RiP as soon as possible. 

And now it's happening! In September, The Slates will play their first—and only—concert in Norway, and naturally, it's taking place in Porsgrunn at RiP! Well, we say "only," but we actually mean "two," because the band is also playing an all-ages matinee show with free admission!

The Slates are a young, up-and-coming indie rock band from Yorkshire who have built a reputation for sharp songwriting, infectious grooves, and a magnetic stage presence. Comprising Louis Barnes (vocals, guitar), Joe Briggs (guitar), Jude Wales (bass), and Cohen Hall (drums)—all aged 19 or 20—the band blends modern psychedelia with classic indie and rock influences, channeling the spirit of Oasis, Arctic Monkeys, The Stone Roses, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers through a fresh, contemporary lens. Their sound is built on riffs, funk-infused rhythms, and catchy hooks, giving their music both dance-floor energy and sing-along appeal.

The Slates have already proven their ability to deliver instantly catchy indie-pop tracks with songs like "What Have You Done?" and "Calling Up," but the ballad "Try It Again" showcases the growing diversity and maturity of their sound.

A trip to Gothenburg for Viva Sounds last November marked the band's first time playing outside the UK; now, this September, they are returning to Scandinavia for three shows in Sweden (Stockholm, Örebro, and Gothenburg) and two concerts in Norway (both in Porsgrunn). This is a band on the rise, and we highly recommend catching The Slates at RiP—it's a unique opportunity to see a fantastic band before everyone else does, right at your favorite club!
